Leading researchers say it is possible to create crop varieties that are more resistant to drought [this is already in the works at MON] and flooding and that respond especially well to rising carbon dioxide. The scientists are less certain that crops can be made to withstand withering heat, though genetic engineering may eventually do the trick.

Most Americans are ignorant of India's decades-old Seed Wars, a topic I've always thought would make a fairly decent movie.

(But perhaps asking our population to learn some world history is unrealistic when one of our high-profile pols thinks that Paul Revere warned the British.)
