I agree and I believe it is illegal at least in the US to record a conversation without the person's consent. I know I have heard that message "this call is being recorded", etc. many times.
Of course they didn't record the first 2 minutes on purpose.
I've spent many courtroom hours with scumbags (motion picture & TV deals). Innocent victim is always the first shot in fraud. If one is in the business of being an investigator, seems a small investment in a ready recording system would be a matter of course.
