You got it.Dividends are only available to actual shares backed by certs,outstanding at the the pay date. Brokers who shorted and naked shorted and didn't cover before the pay date will have to pay the divvies out of their own pockets.so the 'chill' is to sort out how many divvies each broker is actually entitled to.
