greg, any major technological advance started as failure, and in most cases many failures. But the underlying belief that the premise can work coupled with someones dream to make it work ultimately produced success.
I am not saying that GTEL has the light bulb, the telephone or a supersonic plane here, but to expect success in the first trial with the short time frame that this has been developed is unrealistic IMO.
Man, have we become an instant gratification society in everything we do.
