Weather Forecast
Friday, January 7th - 7:15 am

The first part of the day will stay mild and cloudy. Computer models show rain reaching Portland-Vancouver-Salem sometime after 1pm. It could be as late as 3pm. The cold front continues to swing through tonight..bringing rain to all areas (including the Cascade mountain passes). Daytime highs will be in the mid 40s. Overnight lows in the upper 30s..with rain at times.

Cold changes ahead this weekend...and next week. The weekend snow level will dip to 1000 feet at times..beginning on Saturday. Watch out for snow in the Coast Range in spots.. and definitely in the Cascade Foothills.

Now, a few words about next week. Models point to a wintery blast of snow or ice on or around Wednesday. Don't get too excited..it's really to early to tell if this will pan out to be a storm for the valley. The position of the storm track is still up in the air. However, with cold air in place for the Columbia River Gorge.. it is likely to be a significant storm for Gorge residents. As always, we'll keep you posted as early as possible.

Winter can be a dry season in the Central Great Plains, but Pacific storms that hit the California coast can travel through the Rocky Mountains and "tap into" the moisture from the Gulf, emerging into the Plains re-energized. What kind of precipitation does Wichita see from these winter storms?

A) Rain
B) Any/All of These
C) Snow
D) Freezing Rain
