Check out the movie about the guy who invented the varible speed windshield wiper.Ford went at him and lost.
Sometimes its the little guys who achieve what the big boys can't or at least not quickly enough. HLNT has done it.

The first electric cars were made before the 1900's but didn't have the horsepower not the speed.
