mention koufax's curve or valenzuela's
screwball. think they are right up there...

Half the fun of the game is these kinds of "arguments" among fans. But when one guy lays a good case on the table and the other guy says, "well it's all a matter of opinion and I don't wanta talk about it any more" instead of citing the first shred of evidence, well, that's pretty weak.

Add Johnny Bench to the list of Hall of Fame hitters who declared Blyleven's curve the best ever.

What I'm wondering is, if Whitey's curve was the best ever, why is it that in the thousands of references out there to greatest curve ever, his name never appears? And why aren't there players who would say the same? Best I can find is a reference to his "scuffball"and that he had no dominant pitches, but "controlled games with his mastery of the mental aspects of pitching and pinpoint control."

Literally you are the only guy I've ever heard mention Whitey's curve as even in the running for best ever, much less in the class of Koufax or Blyleven. But hey, just being in the minority doesn't make it "wrong". That's the beauty of it. :-)
