No problem, glad to try and help. Those updates can be over the top. We had a talk on this board months ago. It was about the XP Service Pack 3. Bruce looked it over and he said he didn't see anything in it that was really vital. So he opted to not use it, so did I. I already had it on my machine and took it off. That computer is still working just fine without SP3. That is a HUGE update, something like 300MB. And you don't even really need it.
So, Microsoft seems to go too far a lot of the time, and your story is not the first story I've heard about someone having problems after doing an update.
Windows 7 "seems" to be better than Vista. I upgraded to it from Vista. You might want to consider doing the same
