Yup. He's got many classic moments. Let's not kid ourselves, I do not care who you are, Bill Cosby, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy....so on and so on. You cannot do a talk show daily for 4+ hours and always be funny. Most simply can't do that, they need the music breaks, the commercial breaks at least, they need to keep the talking segments to a tv-like 3-8 minutes (or whatever it actually is say on a half hour tv show).

I used to love The Greaseman on local Washington DC radio, which I picked up down the road in Fredericksburg. He was quite funny in that format as he frequently did "skits" that were planned out like on the Tonight Show and kept brief. He simply wouldn't work in a 4 hour all talk/comedy show.

Howard can barely do it, but breaking it up with Robin doing the news, or Celeb interviews, and calls.....and depending what's going on as with conventions, or Oscar/Grammy type shows...he made it work. There are plenty enough segments from all those years to last an eternity. But still, most who try to do a long show like that, fall flat on their face.

Also used to listen to Don and Mike out of the D.C. area. They started off doing a morning zoo, with alot of music. They made the switch to all talk and it worked for them too, although not nearly like with Howard, nowhere near the national attention. But still they were funny and they could do it. As with Howard, they drew up enough funny regular segments and stuff to give the show a regular rhythm.
