You make an important, valid point. But I recollect having read articles that claim there are other uses for copper where products like PEX and CPVC are useless. In general, electric conductivity continues to be a strong card in favor of demand for copper.
LOL I was just picking up copper In Silver City New Mexico and they can not bring it out of the mines fast enough. between the six mines there they ship a half a million tons or more a day.
There is a shortage as it is used in every new power plant and windmill in America.
the electric does not get to the city in a PVC pipe. We need two hundred more power plants alone by 2025 and they are redoing every power plant in the us the last ten years and the next ten.
We are severely short copper and the loads I picked up in NM. go to Connecticut which the mines in Labrador are closer by ship and train.
