Well that's what Conroe/Merom will be, the start of the P-M taking over from P4 in desktop/server. The result will be another successful set of years for x86 and Intel with processors well able to make the desktop 130W limit that Prescott has created even in dual-core maybe even quad-core 65nm form. It will breathe down hard on Itanium though but that's life. It will also push K8 hard and probably force out the new K10 quicker, K9 being the dual-core. More competition and no-one gets to rest in x86-land but the consumer goes happy with the best and cheapest choices ;-).
