Agree, disagree, upset or understanding of the situation is beyond one's immediate control.
He could have done nothing as you state, wait or hide; that's just not his character.
While we can agree or disagree on a multitude of things, topics, operations, handlings, etc.; a company is only as good or strong as its shareholder base.
Relationships sometimes get strained (even in marriage), some grow stronger afterwards; some get divorced, but on good terms..and then back together again at later date......but some go their separate ways and never meet again.
Eric (with his character and principals) isn't a guy that burns bridges or relationships imo He obviously understands the potential and importance of Walmart or any national retailer; however, he won't let it be detrimental to existing relationships either.
