Excellent post.

There was a saying in the 60s that still resonates with me:

"Are we losing out liberties in the name of their defense?"

Troy,

I will not give up my constitutional rights to "abolish terrorists" and I will fight those who desire to take them away from me or anyone else for that (or any other) goal.

And there is the line that separates many folks.

Yes it is.

Almost all people prefer freedom over a police state.

But, I think that with current technology police can single out individuals and groups of individuals as was currently demonstrated and eliminate terrorists and suspected terrorists without infringing on the rights of law abiding individuals.

What I believe is that current technology can help target prospective terrorists and can also help prevent terrorist acts if the people in charge will allow it.

Did you know that there was an FBI agent that fingered one of the 9/11 hijackers and asked for permission to investigate him and was denied permission?

If you were an airline instructor and were asked to teach me to fly a 747 and not to worry about teaching me to land it, what would you think?

Was this instructor brain dead, or did she/he not care?

Then we have an FBI agent that caught onto the scam and was not allowed to investigate it?

I say that we need to get the known terrorists at any cost. Like Bin Laden, Saddam Hussien, and any other known terrorists.

I also do not feel that any honest law abiding American should give up any liberty to eliminate them.

But eliminate them we must.

You are also correct by stating:

this has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative, unless seeking the preservation of the constitution and its guarantees of liberty somehow divides those groups

It simply seems that the liberals are opposed to eliminating terrorists and the conservatives are for it.

But lately, have not the liberals been the fowarders of the "politically correct" movement?

At the risk of having this post deleted by the local PC, I will stop here.

Have fun,
Phil
