I have heard from many Europeans that Dortmunder Union Beer is an excellent beer and a favorite over there.
As far as consistancy of taste/quality is concerned, you may be better served by mrafi who had been in the beer biz for many years, having worked for one of the better micros, and probably has a comprehensive grasp on the situation.

plantman: Olde Frothingslosh was started as a joke back in the late 50's by a morning radio guy on KDKA, Pittsburgh named Rege Cordic. This guy's humor was bitingly funny. Anyway, the Pittsburgh Brewery picked up on it and began putting Iron City Beer into very ornate Olde Frothingslosh bottles at Xmas-time. Iron City beer is noted for its headache value. Too much nitrogen or something. I would imagine those bottles are collector's items now. I'll watch for it this Christmas and scoop some for anyone who's interested.
