sortagreen, The maps you posted brought something to mind, which I will explain later in this post.

I'm not one of Israel's biggest supporters. I think parts our foreign policy have been more in Israel's interest than ours.. However, I don't think the USA should turn our backs on them. IMO, without our support the Arabs, with Iran's support, would drive every Israeli into the sea. That is, those whose throats they didn't gleefully cut.

Israel is a fact. Palestinians would have been far better off if they had accepted that about 60 years ago. With all the labor available among Palestinians and Israel's technical, scientific and financial capabilities, together they could have built an industrial/ technological giant. Instead Palestinians live in grinding poverty, seething in their hatred and Israel spends a huge amount of the national wealth on their military.

About the maps. I lived for 5 years in the Arabian Gulf region. One day I was reading the Letters to the Editor in a local English language newspaper. An Arab sent a letter that helped me see the Israel situation through an Arab's eyes. He wrote:

" Arabs are told we must recognize Israel's right to exists. It would help if we knew which Israel the West was talking about. The Israel of the 1947 UN mandated partition? The Israel following the 1948 Arab League /Israel War? The Israel following the 1967 War. The Israel following the 1973 War. Or the dream of ultra Zionists, Eretz ( Greater) Israel, which includes all the lands between the Red Sea and the Euphrates.

Which Israel?"

Ideally I guess he would like it to become an Israeli/Palestinian State.

Excerpt
Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of one percent of the landmass. But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today . . . No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough.
