Looking foward to seeing ya again next week.
The issue has always been who to go after with a gigantic vision and limited resources. They HAD to get either the Banks or the OEMs because only they have the POWER to shift the model. European banks almost worked. OEMs did work. Dell before Apple. Apple is a leader that nobody follows... not a good choice. As this board indicates Ipod is still a question.
If first mover was the only issue, Netscape would have 90% of the market. Ipod may win because it is and stays better. People may act like sheep for a while, but when the lead sheep finds a better pasture --- the flock follows. Ipod may get flocked at some point. Or that Pixar connection may prove decisive as 2b hopes.
I think Wave management has maximized their effort. As was just discussed, Apple now needs TCG long term to secure their system. Just like good investing suggests to bid under the market and let it come to you. Good marketing is getting the system leaders first and the rest will follow.
As the wonderful VH's children might be reading -- say Iocanne to me Wednesday night and I'll give you a better anecdote.
