I_banker, Sun offers RH and Novell on all their x86 systems. They also certify, but do not offer Windows.
Yes, I´m aware of that. That´s why I talked about fully supporting and selling Linux and Windows x64.
They don´t sell Windows with their servers, which is the OS of choice for close to 70% of volume servers - all their competitors do. Customers want that.
They don´t fully support the fast growing Linux, rather tout Solaris over it, with the result that x86 Linux server buyers don´t take them serious and look elsewhere. At their competitors.
If they continue like this, guys like Appro will sell more Opteron servers next year than SUN will. Of course, Appro currently has a much more appealing line-up as well...
I see a big opportunity there, but also the big risk of SUN blowing it for idiotic reasons.
