no one believed commons would get ANYTHING even a few months ago... thus the chances of the 8 dollar deal ever being real was/is very low.

IMO, if JPM had made an offer of $8.00 a share for JUST the bank, WMI may have taken the offer (although the numbers indicate that this would STILL have been a low based on the cash in WMB and WMBfsb); however, the offer was $8.00 per share for the ENTIRE HOLDING COMPANY which included ALL of our subsidiaries and our banks.

Thats my take on it...other will say something else.

Because at that time wamu was trading at about $12 pps and there would have been a shareholder revolt.That was right before the 'run' on the bank of about 16B. The offer was removed from the table. Had they offered $8 after the run when the PPS were $2 the shareholders would have jumped on it.
