Actually I find the whole point of posting this information a little premature, I mean you have no facts as of yet and you have not talked to either side. In fact the only person you spoke to has no details other than a general knowledge of what has happened. So I am not sure why the haste to post when you don’t even have the details of the situation from both the inspector and the company. So why post it when you have very little to nothing to go by. Now you have opened the door to speculation and conjecture when it could have easily been avoided by waiting until you had all the facts in hand.
When you finally get in contact with this inspector how much damage will you have caused just to find out this was already taken care of or simply a contractor not having the permit visibly posted?
