Greg.....Here is my .02$ cents, The Glocks are much more plentiful, Thus parts are readily available and wide spread and so are the smith's that work on them, Good gun! Now if you want hi cap mags get a browning hi power there are a lot of after market mags available at cheap prices, It's a good gun too.

Greg....Thanks for asking! That's a tall order, but I'll give it a shot.

Fist off, I would like to inquire as to the main purpose this gun would serve, will be it's main job be carry, is it for you or someone else, a home defense gun? All of things add to the importance of the gun choice, as I’m sure you know all to well from your description of gun history.

(1) Is the 9mm version equally as reliable?

Mostly Yes, but a .357 SIG would be my choice and in fact is. But 9's are much better now then they were just a few years ago. Guns have come a long ways in the last few years and with the ammo available the 9 is a serious defender and stopper. However, a .357 SIG barely kicks more then a nine and will out perform it by a long shot!!! The recoil of my Sig-Sauer P229 is much less them my .40’s in the same gun, and don't forget with a .357 SIG all you need is a .40 barrel and you've got a .40! You can’t beat two guns for almost the cost of one, JMHO!

(2) If you had to own only one 9mm semi, which would you purchase? The Sig, Glock, or some other handgun?

In Order And IMO:

Sig-Sauer, (not the pro)
Springfield XD40
Walther P99
H&K
Beretta Vertec
Browning Hi-Power
Glock

Just to name a few, in fact you should look into getting a Dae Woo, they are being sold here once again in 9mm & .40, they are good priced, very reliable and a damn fine gun, I have all of the pistols they were once were allowed to sell here. I like the Dae Woo because it fits my hand well, because they are Korean Military issue they are made for smaller hands. I’m a big Dae Woo fan; they make such a great gun that Walther copied their ‘Tri-Action’ trigger for their P99 series.

Please, look into the .357 SIG cartridges before you buy anything, and remember to get best self-defense for whatever gun you buy. The ammo available today has made even the .22 a serious cartridge.

greg - i own a glock (40 cal)
but have owned the 9mm - the glock, in my opinion is up there amoung the best and i have shot many of them - and yes i even shot onebggs sig - while a fine handgun i would still have my glock over it......

i traded my 9mm years ago and bought the 40 cal (never looked back - glad i did) however if i had it to do over again i would have bought the glock 45 - but - i'm too cheap to trade (and spend money) for not a very good reason - the 40 cal does it's job - almost as good as the 45
