Colloidal silver is used for treating infected wounds as well. Acticoat is a thin mesh-like dressing that is used and it consists of nano-crystalline silver ions. The silver ions penetrate the bacterial cell wall therefore causing lysis. I am well familiar with this stuff because I am a wound care physician assistant. I use the acticoat to treat infected diabetic wounds.
