Michael Moore's movies, IMO, are more worth your time than most of the posts on the boards. They're valuable movies and without seeing them, you're certainly handicapped in discussing them, don'tcha think?
As for your question, no I don't think that the backlash ending up costing more than the value of the films. They were factually accurate and any mistakes or inaccuracies were small and dealt with properly. Check his web site for discussions of any mistakes or inaccuracies in both movies.
Personally I learned from them, since I'm generally NOT interested enough to read a lot of political press.
