I've always thought that comment from people a little silly. You mean, if he wasn't playing for a contract, he wouldn't be trying? I would think, in fact, the opposite occurs. A player starts pressing, his pitches start coming up, and he gets whalloped. This isn't football. A man can rarely will a ball past a hitter.
Some people rise to the occasion, and some don't. Playing for a contract has no effect at this time.

Todd Walker talked about performing well at the end of the year to get a big contract before the game on ESPN radio. He batted .350 for the Sox in the postseason last year. The only offer he got was a backup position for the Cubs. lol I don't think the single game will matter as. Pedro last night did need a good game and did what he had to do. It will be interesting to see what Boston's management does if they when the World Series, should open up the check book a little more.
