rlweitz,

Sounds like a foot in the door to me. Establishing the AMD brand with a very broad base should open the door for PC replacement sales later. Not all of these folks are going to remain in abject poverty. Some goodwill now may pay off big later and if AMD can break even on it now then I'm all for it. The product has to work well, however, for this to be successful.

I think you are wrong.

The "NC". Remember when Ellison came out with his little palm computer in 1997 and everyone thought he was nuts?

Well, part of the power of the internet is sheer exponential input.

There must be a way to connect everyone according to their ability to pay. That may be this gizmo.

IRDK, but the concept aught not to be dismissed, out of hand, (so to speak).

Of course, you are correct to point out that Ellison did not make a dime off the concept. But he was also, not in the chip business, either, and that may be the real reason.

Ah, the NC, nostalgia permeates.

Think about the Marketing

Not only do you have the fastest chips in the market,
you also have a company with a humane vison. Your workforce feel like they have a bigger purpose in the world.

"You are seen as the good guys"

Now isn't that just like Apple, worth paying premium for ?
