JimsZ, I don't put anything past the FDIC. They could (and should) have run Wamu if they felt that it was on the brink of faltering. How many tens of billions of dollars were given to Lehman and other banks who ended up collapsing/being absorbed by other entities? How much was shelled out to help Wamu? It seems like Wamu got the raw end of the deal... And to boot, JPM was in talks to purchase Wamu for $8 a share, I believe, just soon before the bank was seized. It just seems uber fishy and more than a coincidence that JPM was the bank to purchase Wamu at a fraction of the original price that was offerred...
