The church helps more people than all the gov'ts in the world combined and far more efficiently. So churches are built - so what, people need a place to congregate and worship and the structures are usually built to last hundreds of years and are far from luxurious.

Romans chap.13 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God v2. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted.
