I love Ameritrade. In the 8 years I've used it, it's only been down one day. And they charge me $9.99 a trade which is very fair. Their streaming tools are awesome, and they also have free desktop software to do some amazing charting. At tax time, all your tax reports are ready to print for free.

I think you need $1000 to open the account (although not sure on that one).

TD Waterhouse is Ameritrade. Been "TD Ameritrade" for over a year. $9.99/trade not $29.99.

Ryan - TD Waterhouse is the Canadian arm of TD Canada Trust.
With them, I pay $9.99 per trade.
In the US, I believe TD Waterhouse is called TD Ameritrade, or a division of TDAmeritrade, and their fee schedule is different as well(I think).

Call TD waterhouse, set up a webbroker account - if you do not already have one.
-there are conditions to obtaining 9.99 (cdn) trading.
1) account over 100k
2) 30 trades per quarter
3) or if you subscribe to 'active trader'. (12 buck a month)

Don't quote me on the parameters, but can be easily researched on their web site.

Be careful, there are usually conditions attached to the 5/7/9.99 dollar trades that correlate with your trading activity or value of assets on account at most of these online brokerages.

I used to use TDAmeritrade until it abruptly blocked me out of buying one of the stocks I was trying to flip. So I sold it and unknowingly couldn't repurchase it at a much lower price. I've since switched to Zecco. It executes trades just as quickly as TDAmeritrade, allows 10 free trades per month if you have over $25,000 in your account, and only costs $4.50 per trade.
