I like this part:

When normalized for the average total cost per end-user per year, the leading performers in the study spent $53 while lagging performers spent $86, a 40% advantage for top performance.

According to my calculations, a Wave ERAS-managed SED easily falls into the end-user cost/yr. range above ($53-$86). Of course it's a vastly superior solution to software-based FDE and as an added ROI, ERAS can manage TPMs as well.

Cost of SED= $100
ERAS license= $60 (good for life cycle of PC)
ERAS annual maintenance license (3 yr. @ $15/yr.)= $45

3 yr. cost= $205 ($68/yr.)

Note: High volume pricing may be somewhat less, both for the hardware (SED) and ERAS.

Another advantage to SEDs besides the encryption being much easier to use, is that keys management is far simpler because the encryption keys themselves reside on the HDD and require no management. Software FDE solutions require encryption keys management as part of the complete solution which is what drives the cost up into the $53-$86 per end-user/yr. range cited in the Aberdeen study.
