neomfriend,

The KeyWord Registry is not required for the ecosystem to operate. It is a value-add that brands will find a highly desirable double-edged sword (JMO). Beneficial because it greatly extends the reach of the barcode platform to a vast number of consumers who otherwise would not engage (they have no camera); beneficial because it keeps their brand in front of the consumer who has to physically type the brand name thus aiding retention; but jagged on one side in the fact that it carries a hefty price tag.

I expect brands to be accepting of the steep price in that it reduces the chance of cyber squatters entering the picture. Over the years brands have been engaged in extensive law suits over domain names that cyber squatters dangle over their heads for a ransom.

The Registry has not drawn much attention among iHubbers because Neom's competition has served to focus their thoughts. As iHubbers have focused on revenue and infringers it has drawn attention away from something that, although exceedingly important, is somewhat of a tangent to their immediate concerns...$. The desire for instant gratification will tend to do that to a person ;)

Regarding your last question: Prior to this ICANN release, the latest talk about the registry was provided by myself. I have been tracking ICANN on this aspect and have been posting periodically on them since perhaps February.

Could there be doubt as to whether this is in fact the KeyWord Registry..absolutely. I could state a case against it. However, I can also argue extensively in favor, and bottom line...I feel convinced.

Best,
BC
