I_banker - since opteron scaled to 4p quite well due to its HT connections, that the 4P market was likely to experience a lot of growth. They even went on to postulate that the 4p market may replace the 2p market as the sweet spot for x86 servers.
This speculation could very well become reality, but HT isn't necessarily the only means that could enable 4P growth. Specifically, dual-core and multi-core CPUs will, in my opinion, become the primary driver for 4P market growth in the future. Both AMD and Intel will be introducing their dual-core products next year, and the number of 4P systems should significantly expand.
