Jerry, Both AMD and Intel will be introducing their dual-core products next year, and the number of 4P systems should significantly expand.

While the conclusion is true and setting aside the argument that the AMD systems may well be 8p, I don't believe Intel will meet their roadmap for P4. I think IPF will be dual core, but given how long it takes to design and build a chip, it seems highly unlikely that they will be able to have volume P4 dual-core silicon by the end of 2005.

I think they are posturing to hold Opteron back if possible, because there is little else they can do at this time.

Jerry_R - but Intel will still have to come up with an improved infrastructure to feed those CPUs - their current bus system won't do the job.
