#40999 RE: morrowinder #40993

Running FINE In 64 bit mode just means its using the extended memory and a 64 bit OS.

As desperation sets in, our subject's arguments sound more and more shrill...

I REALLY doubt SAS recompiled for AMD.

...he begins to flail about wildly...

In fact I don't know it for a fact but I suspect that Oracle didn't recompile for 64 bits and is just taking advantage fo the 64 bit extended memory.

...until his head literally explodes from the pressure of defending an indefensible argument!

Thank god Opteron blows away Xeon in 32-bit performance too, then.

"Itanium has nothing written for it lol."

As has been pointed out, Itanium needs everything at least compiled for it, if not written specifically for it. That is, unless a Celeron 800 level of performance is sufficient.

Of course, you probably knew that...

What on earth are you babbling about "full blown 64 bit apps recompiled as 64 bit Apps"? If an app is compiled for long mode, which it has to be if it is going to access more than 4 gig of RAM, it also will be able to use the extra registers and stuff. True, if the algorithms are optimized for 8 gp registers (however that might be done), then it might not get as much benefit as it otherwise might have.
