Most recently, Gene served as chairman and CEO of Apexion Technologies Inc., a start-up technology company providing healthcare supply and surgical instrument tracking applications that was recently acquired by Lawson Software.

Lawson Software (Lawson Software, St. Paul, MN, www.lawson.com) A software company that specializes in ERP for vertical markets including health care, retail, public sector, professional and financial services (Nasdaq:LWSN) today announced a definitive agreement to acquire Apexion Technologies Inc., a leading provider of healthcare surgical instrument and supply tracking applications based on a scalable mobile architecture. The definitive agreement is subject to Apexion shareholder approval and is expected to be finalized within 45 days.

The acquisition of San Francisco-based Apexion (www.apexion.com) will add surgical instrument tracking functionality and a scalable mobile platform to Lawson's healthcare product offering. It also will support Lawson's growth strategy to enhance its vertical market products by acquiring industry-specific technologies. Lawson expects to retain most of Apexion's 20 full-time employees.

Once the transaction is finalized, these applications will help hospitals lower the cost of providing high-quality patient care. Lawson also expects this action to provide it with a strong competitive advantage over enterprise application vendor PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT PSFT PeopleSoft (stock symbol)
PSFT Progressive Saturation Fourier Transform
PSFT Prosoft-Technology, Inc ), which currently has a partnership with Apexion.

"Lawson's market leadership and the unique fit among our products made this agreement compelling," said Maher Hakim, president, Apexion Technologies. This directly improves a hospital's bottom line and patient care by reducing the number of delayed or cancelled surgeries.

Apexion's technologies will deepen the functionality of Lawson's healthcare suite and expand its current mobile platform to include Microsoft's Windows CE (Windows Consumer Electronics) Microsoft's version of Windows for handheld devices and embedded systems that use x86, ARM, MIPS and SHx CPUs.
