Audio Presentation - Wichita County, Texas SKYWARN Storm Spotters Recording for April 10, 1979

On Tuesday, April 10, 1979, the city of Wichita Falls, Texas was struck by a large tornado. The members of the Wichita County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), operating as SKYWARN Storm Spotters, made the first report of the storm to the National Weather Service, and are credited with saving many lives in the city.

During the afternoon of April 10, Danny Roberts, WB5ORE, from Nocona, Texas [ http://noconachamber.netfirms.com/noc-map.htm ], happened to be listening to the Wichita County ARES repeater and, as the storms began to develop southwest of Wichita Falls, he began to record the net on his small cassette recorder simply by laying the mike next to his radio speaker. His recording, just over 74 minutes in length, continued throughout the net until all of the power went off in Wichita Falls.

Three years after tornado, renewal hasn’t come easy in Greensburg

The antique store Where’dya Find That is the only Main Street building that survived the tornado. Now it stands next to Kiowa County United, which rents low-cost retail space.

Greensburg stories | Two-for-one deal; green not for everyone; can't take away a blessing

Linaka Lauer (left), owner of Mackie Shae Boutique in the Kiowa County United building and Dezere (cq) Valles price new items for Lauer's store Tuesday, Apr. 27, 2010. Lauer is originally from Amarillo, Tex. Three years after an EF-5 tornado destroyed nearly all of Greensburg, Kan., May 4, 2007, Main Street has come back thanks to a nonprofit, Kiowa County United, which provided 10 low-cost rental spaces for Greensburg businesses.

Kiowa County United opens in Greensburg, Kan. [video]

Three years after a devastating tornado wiped out Greensburg, Kan., the town dedicated a new shopping center. After commercial development resisted building in Greensburg because of the high rents they would have to charge, a local group led by Scott Brown formed a nonprofit corporation and collected $1.5 million in donations to open Kiowa County United.

in the following (the second last video included in the post to which this is a reply [all videos linked there still available]), note the particularly bright/loud radar echoes as the tornado passes over and past Greensburg -- that is Greensburg -- as in debris from (per second paragraph http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=49740637 ):
