Supercell Time-Lapse #1 -- See the Rotation and Comprehend
---
the video below and the videos in the following (continuing with a reply to this post) are far and away the best such videos I have ever seen -- for me at least, absolutely incredible finds -- watch these videos and instantly 'get' what makes supercells a breed apart, inherently far more energetic/powerful than other storms -- see the rotation of the heart of the supercell, the updraft into which all the unstable air literally becoming the supercell is flowing -- and the sheer explosiveness of the process
(one key concept to keep in mind -- just as water goes down a drain much faster once it starts spiraling into the drain, potential and actual updraft speeds in a storm more than double once the updraft begins to rotate [and the storm thus becomes a supercell] -- with [the vertical component of] maximum updraft speeds in the most intense supercells apparently reaching over 200 mph the last I heard [not sure if they've come closer to nailing that down yet])
anyway, here's the first of several imo just amazing videos:

Fort Cobb, Oklahoma Supercell Time-Lapse
mcgrathimages May 07, 2007
An incredible time-lapse sequence of the Fort Cobb, OK supercell from April 3, 2003. This footage has been included in a number of tornado/weather documentaries. Although the storm never did produce a funnel or tornado, it did produce grapefruit sized hail!
