NEW TCG Mobile Phone Work Group Selected Use Case Analysis Version 1.0 FAQ January 2009 (pdf, 66Kb)

TRUSTED COMPUTING GROUP

Now that the work group has published the MTM specification and a reference architecture, when do you anticipate implementation of the MTM? How will be it be
implemented?

The TCG doesn't ask its members to disclose sensitive commercial information, such as
timescales for implementation of MTMs and their incorporation into mobiles. MTMs could be
implemented as one or more discrete chips, or as software on security chips that are already in
some mobiles.

Which use cases do you believe will be implemented first?

The most popular use cases cannot easily be predicted because they depend on individual
business models. However, the "Platform Integrity" use case is likely to be a natural
accompaniment to any other use case, because platform integrity is at the heart of all Use Cases.

awk.....do you see the MTM as a big opportunity for Wave? ICBW, but I thought I remembered reading something a while back where you viewed the mobile phone area as one that could have the potential to catapult Wave upwards. Can you give us your views on this area as it relates to Wave and potential benefits? Thanks in advance. TPT

barge, I'm just mindful that TPM 1.0 was published in February 2001, and our trip to Vegas is still on the horizon.

Non-TCG-standard solutions (ARM TrustZone, Discretix CryptoCell, maybe others) are available now for use by Smartphone handset manufacturers. It will get interesting when there are TCG-based MTM product announcements, and we should see a shorter ramp than for TPM.
