Just a personal observation, but as a collector of silver and gold I quickly found that 'space' is a problem. Dollar for dollar, silver takes up a heck of a lot more room than gold.
Food stores are going require storage space as well, while an oz of gold is a relatively small item.
accumulate in this order, a secure place to live in the city, month's supply of non perishable food, several guns, ammo, extra clothing, tools for repair, a generator, a small farm in the country, then gold and silver, fwiw, hge
