Slight correction Janice, companies don't set X date....heck many of them don't even know what Ex Div date is, much to the delight of guys like Wayne Rumball and a few others of us.

CEOs, or companies, don't announce ex-dividend dates, they do however, announce record dates and declaration dates.....there is no need to announce an ex-dividend date, it is always 2 days prior to the record date (mutual funds excluded)....this is a concept often confused with regard to corporate terminology
