Right, except the ECN systems (at least Redibook which is the one that Fidelity is part of, and the only one I ever used) don't seem to have the capability to accomodate ALL different types of orders; market, limit, stop, stop limit, various TIF instructions, etc.

So I think the ECN architecture is a good start (but only a start), to the vision that the poster was talking about.
