U have to admit, the war was a bad idea. Now here is what I don't get. I believe that Obama said the war is costing $1B or $2B a month. Maybe he said a week. The Pentagon's requested budget for next year is approximately half a trillion dollars. If the war costs $2B a month, it probably is a bargain as we have established a strategic base in a volatile part of the world. Think $500M "embassy". And, we have a theater for trying out our weapons.
Because, to be honest, we should remember what Ike said about the military industrial complex. If we spend billions upon billions on weapons, eventually we will use them. So, you cannot have this huge military industrial complex with a war here or there.
I am position neutral on the politics of this. My concern is the imminent bankruptcy of the U.S., and military spending IS a part of the pie, and I shudder to think about the billions we are spending on contractors.
I agree that john's post had a political tone in that people opposed to the war believe Cheney started it to give business to Halliburton. What gets on my nerves about that position is that Cheney worked at Halliburton for 5 years. THE MAN IS A CAREER BUREAUCRAT. People who characterize Cheney as an oil man literally are ignorant of his biography.
That's by 2-cents worth.
