NaturalNano will be incorporating its halloysite natural tubes into the nail enamel products of France-based Fiabila.

The New York-based company has announced a partnership to develop, test and incorporate its technology into the products of one of the largest private label manufacturers of nail products.

Immediate impact on market
Fiabila supplies a number of the industry's big players and with the deal the nanotechnology company is hoping to make its mark on the personal care industry.
"Given Fiabila's desire to rapidly integrate new technology into their factories in five countries, we expect to have an immediate impact on the global cosmetics market and on the performance of nail-care products," said NaturalNano president Cathy Fleischer.
Incorporating the halloysite natural tubes (HNT), which the company stresses are naturally, occurring, non toxic and environmentally friendly, into nail polish will enhance their durability and general performance, according to the company.

In addition, NaturalNano will continue exploring the potential of its extended release technology to create longer lasting and more brightly coloured polishes.

Potential of personal care
The company has been targeting the personal care industry for some time because of its significant market potential."Working with Fiabila to enter the $295bn personal products industry is a tremendous opportunity for us to leverage the strengths of our naturally occurring, environmentally friendly HNT technology," said Fleischer.

Earlier this spring the company announced funding from a consumer goods company, the name of which was not disclosed, in order to develop its extended release fragrance technology.
The consumer goods company will be adding the fragrance-filled tubes that release scent slowly to its new products and the additional funding will help NaturalNano perfect the technology.

In addition, the company has also highlighted the potential the technology holds for sunscreen products as the controlled release of the agents could increase the lifespan of the product.

In the autumn of 2007, the company entered into a partnership with the US Naval Research Laboratory that has undoubtedly boosted the company's technology portfolio.
The agreement allows NaturalNano access to the US Naval Laboratory's extensive expertise in the field of nanotechnology research, which incorporates the Nanoscience Institute - established in 2001 to conduct multidisciplinary research within this area.
