Probably the same reason that with DNA testing now folks are getting released from prison and taken off of death row. The reason they are behind bars awaiting trial can be several reasons... can't afford to post bail, no bail was set, they are in for multiple charges, etc., etc..

I just hope that you are not ever on anyone's jury b/c it's obvious you can't be fair, and I hope that you would tell them that in the jury selection process.
