it's absurd to think that the republican vote was motivated by Pelosi's words, as opposed to their own political gain.

Let us not forget, 95 Democrats voted no. They weren't motivated by the childish rant either.

I do agree that the congress men and women who voted against the bill actually opposed the bill itself. Not some speech about the causes of the problem. Their opposition was for various and in some cases very different reasons.

About the speech itself, I personally know several people who strongly approved of her speech, and its timeliness. Including myself.

Beamer, I agree that the excuse sounds rather stupid, which is why I'm not defending how the House Republicans are behaving themselves.

But to say they're just in it for their political gain would be to ignore the antics of the other two sides of this three-sided debate. The fact is that they're all in it for political gain.
