Re: About the speech itself, I personally know several people who strongly approved of her speech, and its timeliness. Including myself.

Better timing would have been after the vote, for instance.

But all that aside, I fully support people speaking their mind, especially when it comes to the failed policies of the Bush administration.

However, both Republicans and Democrats need to put their differences aside at a time of crisis, and find the common ground to prevent a credit crunch.

Bush provided a starting point. It was woefully inadequate, lacked oversight, and was essentially a carte blache to spend 700 billion dollars. The Democrats added some essential ingredients, and should have kept it as simple as possible. I would have even supported a much smaller bill that merely served as emergency funding.

But instead, some Republicans added earmarks, such as an attempt to eliminate the capital gains tax. Still others tried to make it a political move, others wanted to use it for finger pointing, etc. And most of all, it was very unpopular among the people - and let us not forget that this is a Nation for the People. We do the voting, and when we reject a bill to the tune of 20 or 30 to 1, it says that we need to seriously reconsider how we're handling it.

I believe that the bill is necessary, however distasteful. But I also think that others need to be educated on this, because most people just see the words "Bailout" and assume it helps the "Fat Cats" while screwing everybody else. That's not what it's for, and the Dems are specifically excluding any of the funds to be used for executive compensation.

So, in summary, both Republicans and Democrats kind of screwed up, and it doesn't all fall on Nancy Pelosi. They need to put down their differences, come back from their holiday, educate Americans on why this bill is necessary, and move with solidarity.

It's quite simple, but also exceedingly difficult. John McCain can't enter Washington and "shake things up". He's completely powerless if everyone else is acting like monkeys in a zoo. It's something that everyone needs to do and work together for the good of the country. That's it.
