ieddyi -- a committee CONTROLLED BY REPUBLICANS -- at that time the Democrats by themselves weren't able to keep any bill from coming out of any committee (and indeed at that time it was common practice for the Republican members of a committee to meet and settle committee business outside of committee with no Democrats invited, welcome or present, and then to hold a pro forma committee meeting as a fait accompli) -- give us proof to the contrary specifically as to that proposal -- put up or let it go
