XM Satellite Radio Makes Major Inroads With Automakers
XM Creates Strong Presence at NY Auto Show With GM, Capping Watershed Week of Agreements With VW, Nissan
NEW YORK, March 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM Satellite Radio, America's leading satellite radio service, is advancing aggressively into the new car market, creating a major presence at the 2002 New York International Auto Show with displays in General Motors booths and XM's own booth, capping a watershed week of agreements with automakers Volkswagen and Nissan.

At the New York Auto Show, XM is being featured in displays in General Motors booths, representing 23 GM vehicle models that will offer XM beginning later this year. Actual XM-equipped vehicles are stationed in the Chevrolet, Pontiac and Cadillac booths.

In addition, XM is featuring a Pontiac Sunfire and Nissan Pathfinder in its own booth at the show, with factory supplied XM radio systems during the press days. When the show opens to the public, XM will feature a Nissan Altima and an Audi TT equipped with XM aftermarket radio systems, which can easily be added to any vehicle.

``XM is shifting into high gear in its push into the new car market,'' said Dan Murphy, XM's Vice President of Retail Marketing and Distribution. ``With 100 channels of music, news, sports and entertainment, coast-to-coast in digital-quality sound, XM is quickly becoming a must-have option for new car buyers.''

XM recently announced agreements with several automakers to offer XM in new cars. Yesterday, Nissan announced it will offer XM as an option this coming fall on Infiniti and Nissan 2003 models. They include the Infiniti Q45 performance luxury sedan, the Infiniti G35, the Infiniti I35 luxury sedan along with the Nissan Pathfinder sport-utility vehicle and the Nissan Murano crossover SUV.

On Monday, XM also announced it had signed a distribution agreement with Volkswagen of America, Inc., which also encompasses Audi of America, to offer satellite radio to Volkswagen and Audi customers in the United States in the coming years. Specific vehicle installation plans and timing will be announced separately by Volkswagen and Audi. Earlier this month, XM announced that participating Isuzu dealers will offer to install XM radios in Axiom and Rodeo models beginning next month.

In one of the fastest technology rollouts ever at General Motors, XM will be offered on 23 of its most popular car and truck models this fall. In November 2001, GM became the first auto manufacturer in the world to offer XM as a factory-installed option on 2002 Cadillac DeVilles and Sevilles. Beginning this fall, the start of the '03 model year, the XM option will be available on the Buick Rendezvous and LeSabre; Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, DeVille, and Seville; Chevrolet Avalanche, Cavalier, Impala, Monte Carlo, Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe; GMC Denali, Denali XL, Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL; Oldsmobile Alero; and Pontiac Aztek, Bonneville, Grand Am, and Sunfire.

AMI Auto World recently named XM one of the best new car options in its ``Best of 2002'' issue.

XM was named ``Product of the Year'' by Fortune, an ``Invention of the Year'' by Time and won Popular Science's 2001 ``Best of What's New'' Grand Award in the electronics category. XM won several awards at the 2001 International Consumer Electronics Show, including ``Best of CES'' in the automotive category.

XM (Nasdaq: XMSR - news) is transforming radio, an industry that has seen little technological change since FM, almost 40 years ago. XM's programming lineup features 100 coast-to-coast digital channels: 71 music channels, more than 30 of them commercial-free, from hip hop to opera, classical to country, bluegrass to blues; and 29 channels of sports, talk, children's and entertainment. XM also brings to the car, for the first time on radio, the same diverse selection of 24-hour news sources available in the home on cable and DIRECTV.

XM radios are available at major electronics retailers nationwide including Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter, Ultimate Electronics, participating RadioShack Dealers and Franchisees, Crutchfield, Good Guys, CarToys, Audio Express and Sound Advice; and at independent retailers. Leading manufacturers such as Sony, Alpine and Pioneer offer a broad array of XM radios including models that will easily enable any existing car stereo system to receive XM service (the Pioneer Universal Receiver and the Sony Plug-and-Play) and 21 models of new AM/FM/XM systems offering many other great features. XM is available as a factory-installed option in some Peterbilt and Freightliner trucks and through Pana-Pacific. General Motors in November rolled out factory-installed Delphi-Delco XM radios in Cadillac DeVille and Seville models, and will expand to 21 additional GM models this year. XM's strategic investors include America's leading car, radio and satellite TV companies -- General Motors, American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Clear Channel Communications and DIRECTV. Factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those in the forward-looking statements in this press release include uncertainties associated with demand for the company's service, the company's dependence on third party vendors, its continuing need for additional financing, as well as other risks described in XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.'s Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on 12-6-2001.
