Countryboy, this explains a lot more about the advertising structure of the NBC deal and suggests there were key technical advantages offered through WXP by means of "inserting ads into the videos...to command high rates among firms which want to target fans of particular sports." Alea made this point as a potential benefit in an earlier post.

I agree with the author of the article that much of the potentially large audience of business users may be left out, especially since the majority of business laptops likely run XP, so an important question now is how many of the 100m copies of Vista are installed on laptops, specifically for business users? And another question that maybe Barge can answer is how many Vista desktop owners have those up-and-coming extenders? How many have Vista on their xBoxes?

If WXP has the dual advantages of HD quality reception and targeted ad insertion then this Olympics deal by itself could help to establish a decent valuation for asset sale.

Also, when the terms of the deal are finalized we may learn more about the revenue sharing arrangement through an 8k from Wave.

With XP reaching the point of actually being taken off the store shelves, isn't now a good time to be pushing some of these new capabilities exclusively through the Vista platform?

Even if one of these capabilities is "fundamentally" offered by WaveXpress.

CB, this looks like a marketing push by Softie to boost Vista distribution. What I liked were your highlights about Wavexpress being THE key.

Reason: Advertising creative people don't like quality of streaming video, nor do advertisers. NBC and Softie are pushing to the next level. Deliver DVD quality TV and commercial. Plus, with the target ability to sport specific consumers is VERY valuable.

Key will be volume because my guess we haven't heard revenues because we are tied to advertising and they are still selling. That number will not be in the press, but if good Wave could see a win fall of cash and validate the Price of selling Wavexpress....maybe.

Should be interesting through the third quarter.
