#223077 RE: plumear #223062

OT: plumear: The $75 million fine was the amount levied against the firm. For the individual partners involved, in addition to jail terms for some, they had to return their "ill-gotten gains". For example, for the top two involved:

On March 20, 2008, Mr. Weiss agreed to plead guilty and admit that he conspired to pay off plaintiffs in lawsuits brought against corporations on behalf of shareholders who contend corporate misconduct occurred. Under the plea agreement, he faces up to 33 months in prison and would pay back $9.75 million in "ill-gotten gains" along with a fine of $250,000.

William S. Lerach was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to forfeit $7.75 million for concealing illegal payments to a plaintiff in class-action lawsuits.

My question is: since the crooked lawyers,(I apologize for the redundancy - LOL) got away with $240 million in ill gotten fees, why did they only get fined $75 million?!
