I was also thinking it could be another Apple device where we get the design win, such as the long-rumored Mac Tablet.

IDCC has as much as told us the design win will be on some kind of 3G wireless smart card (as you say... computer) rather than a smart phone; our chip integrated onto somebody elses wireless card for use in laptops. The company is concentrating their chip product efforts in this area, rather than smart phones as such. That is the beauty of the slim chip, as the name implies it is easily integrated into another company's ExpressCard, or laptop motherboard (If not Apple, Dell or Toshiba would be nice! :) )

Plumear, it's one thing to talk about the goals of a company and target dates at the ASM, it's another thing altogether to issue a press release to the investment community with the statement made by Merritt: "We are extremely pleased with the progress of our SlimChip™ family of mobile broadband offerings and expect that we will announce a design win in the first half of 2008."

IDCC's price action also supports the notion that something is close to done and it's no small item. Design wins don't just happen in a bubble, it takes months of time and many people from both companies to finalize the research and discuss the financials. You can bet that a fund manager has got his/her people out there talking to multiple players trying to get a bead on what and when. Heartland is likely accumulating more shares as well given the conversation in our last CC.

Regardless, it's nice to see IDCC getting a little love in an otherwise tough market these days. IMO
