#33249 RE: UpNDown #33248

[edit]Whether or not it would work is not going to be the issue. AMD will not introduce anything that is dual core below the level of the Opteron probably for some time. Opteron plugs into 940 and not 939. The issue will probably remain moot.

I am certain that it would work, however.

UpNDown - With that kind of a feature, you can bet that everyone will be falling all over themselves to make it clear that they're compatible. You'll see.

UandD,

I don't want to have to make any assumptions. I want this explicitly stated: a socket-939 board will be updatable to dual core with just a chip swap and a BIOS update. I want to hear this as a specific from the socket-939 board manufacturer before I buy the board.

You are asking too much. Socket 939 will be good as is. Maybe AMD can put in the roadmap, but no board maker is going to guarantee something like this, something that is not even on the official roadmap of the CPU vendor.
